Metatopia is a thoughtful corner of the market-place of ideas, open to the most outrageous ideas but grounding itself in intellectual care and rigour. The Metatopia project comprises a series of discussion meetings that aim to give space to innovative thinking about the nature of reality.
The discussion meetings are primarily seminars and workshops, but we also include larger events such as conferences, and smaller activities such as recorded interviews.
Humankind lives reality as a whole but studies it in parts: in physics, philosophy, politics, ethics, art. Metatopia bridges these partitions in a cross-disciplinary range of talks about the nature of inner space, and outer space, and what is in between.
Topics included in the past have included the origins of modern consciousness in Neolithic culture; the use of psychedelic substances such as etheogens, immaterialist philosophies such as Vedanta and George Berkeley's metaphysics, the scientific approaches to consciousness and psi phenomena. The main events so far have been Metageum 07 in Malta and Metageum 09 in London (www.metageum.org).
The next Metatopia event will be Ecstasy - Religious, Sexual, and Chemical, ot be held in Treadwll's bookshop.on 26th & 27th September 2009. A key theme will be the comparative analysis of these three routes to ecstatic states of consciousness. Are they different roads to the same destination? The aim will be to discuss both the experiential and the philosophical aspects of that question.
The venue will be the meeting room at Treadwell's Bookshop, Covent Garden. There will be four talks and one panel discussion on each day, priced at £5 per talk. More details will be on this web site very soon.
If you would like to attend, or in fact if you would be interested in giving a talk or demonstration, do please get in touch with the organiser, Peter B Lloyd (www.peterblloyd.org), via the form below:
